And he wandered away and away, with
Nature the dear old nurse,
Who sang to him night and day, the
rhymes of the universe.
And when the way seemed long, and his
heart began to fail,
She sang to him a more wonderful song, or told
a more wonderful tale.

Hi everyone,
There is something very healing about getting out into some secluded area and really taking note of your surroundings. This past spring I had an opportunity to travel out west and see parts of Arizona. This was my first time out west. Above is a watercolor of the Glen Canyon, which is a dammed up part of the Colorado River. It is in Northern Arizona, about 40 miles from the Utah border. The painting is 11x28” the largest watercolor so far- I really wanted to draw the viewer in. It was dry, windy, rocky and awe-inspiring. It was also wonderful to be able to see the years of erosion that pealed away layers of sediment, minerals and rock, and in such a vastness that “no words really can describe”. As my husband Tom drove I had my painting supplies in hand and made these sketches below. Hope you enjoy them!
Thank you,
Holly
PS Happy belated Fourth of July!! America truly is a beautiful place! Where is your favorite destination? Mine is Maine, but more on that in the next blog.
